Anbody know a good mix for making grog? I've tried to make a simple syrup with brown sugar and using Pusser's as a base. It seems that no matter how I mix it the brown sugar overpowers the rum and the lime juice just seems distracting. I suspect the problem was that I used bottled lime juice instead of the fresh stuff and overdid the syrup to try and counter it. If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them.

Always fresh juice! And try turbinado sugar, which will greatly reduce the molasses taste and should give a nice "mild molasses" taste. In a way.
You can generally find the turbinado sugar at organic foodstores - Trader Joes and Whole Foods Market an the like. Or general grocery stores might have Sugar In The Raw.

What is Turbinado sugar? I've never heard of it. Does it have a different name in Britain?

I can't say explain it better...
Turbinado sugar (popular brand name(s) include Sugar in the Raw (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_in_the_Raw)) is a type of sugar cane (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_cane) extract. It is made by steaming unrefined raw sugar.
Turbinado sugar is similar in appearance to brown sugar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_sugar) but paler, and in general the two can be exchanged freely in recipes.
Related types of raw sugar include Muscovado (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscovado) and Demerara (sugar) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demerara_%28sugar%29).

Though it say that turbinado and brown sugars can be exchanged freely, I find the taste of turbinado to be a couple notches down, maybe even half way between brown and organic cane sugar. It's really nice for rum drinks, and good to have for the bar. I use these two for simple syrup, and don't have any table-sugar-based simple syrup.
