Hello all! I am new here, but certainly not to rum. I will be vacationing in Tortola next feb and was wondering about the rum made at the Callwood distillery. Has anyone tried it, and is it worth buying.

Welcome to the forums. I'd definitely plan on going to the Callwood distillery. If you don't buy a bottle of that rum you'll wish you had once you've left.

I'm planning a family trip to Tortola next summer and hope to visit the Callwood Distillery. My boss bought me back a bottle of Arundel Cane Rum made from "pure cane juice", that they produce. I will it try it for the first time this afternoon, and report back on it, after I have finished my bloody mary!! The distillery looks amazing. I have a couple of photos on my site. Old copper pot stills outdoors and bring your own bottle for filling. Can't wait to visit Tortola again, looking forward to a ploughman's lunch and a "painkiller" at Pusser's. Does anybody know if there are any direct flights from Tortola to St.Croix so I can visit Cruzan Rums aswell?????

Well it is definetly a sugar cane juice rum. I don't have a lot of these in my collection, but they are growing on me slowly as my collection grows. It doesn't appear to be too old, despite it's dark colour, but still a pretty musty nose and flavour. I drank it straight over a cube of ice. I think it would be better as a mixer. Apparently thier spiced rum is good. I guess I will have to wait till next summer to try that one.

The best way to get to St Croix is to take the ferry to St Thomas and then catch the sea plane to St Croix, or sail. Most of the flights from the Beef Island airport in the BVIs are to St Thomas and St Maarten.

Seaborne Airlines (http://www.seaborneairlines.com/index.php) and Cape Air (http://www.flycapeair.com/common/index.php?lng=ENG&div=AA&nav=AA&page=A01&flash=1) are two choices for flying from St Thomas to St Croix. The ferry from St Thomas to St Croix can be a bit nasty and long if your sea legs are not in shape.

Thanks guys for the info. I will have to see if the better half will let me disappear for a day while I'm in Tortola, so I can get to St.Croix.
