Welcome to the Ministry of Rum forums Joy. I am a great admirer of Appleton Extra, can you tell us something about how this rum was made?

It is a combination of pot and column still rums that have all been aged for a minimum of 12 years. The long years of tropical ageing gives this rum its mahogany hue, bold character and smooth taste.

Thank you Joy! its really a great great rum and i love its beautiful deep mahogany color. As i haven`t yet been able to taste any other "higher" than the 12, its my favorite among my Appleton rums. I also like the Reserve, and VX is a wonderful mixer along with the white which i find to be one of the best white rums i`ve tried.

Yesterday in the liquor store I noticed they had mixed stock of "extra" and "15 year old" on the small oval upper label while the bottom label on both bottles were the same. The colours of the rum "looked" identical to me.

Is there a marketing change happening to the "extra" here in Canada? Or is it even more then that?

I found part of my answer on the Appleton website: appletonestate.com.

There is a label change. So how about the rum?:)
