Is Clement Premier Canne worth getting? From what I've read on here searching past threads, it sounds like it is a bit subdued compared to other agricole blancs due to the lower abv (40%) for the US market. I read one opinion saying that is does not make a very good ti punch as it lacks the characteristic grassy kick of other blancs.
Any other thoughts on whether this was worth picking up? I came across a bottle locally and am wondering if I should go back and get it - it is $24 btw, which seems like a reasonable price, no?
thoughts?

The premiere canne is absolutely one of my favorite whites. You're right that it is very subdued compared to others from the region. It's a unique product to me. I would pick it up just for the experience because I've found nothing else quite like it.
Personally, I'll drink it in a tall glass with lots of ice and a squeeze of lemon.
I haven't yet tried the Premiere Canne or I'd offer whatever limited insights I possess. I am a big fan of the VSOP.

Around here, Premiere Canne is considered an elite clear spirit. I seem to remember it being close to $40 a bottle last year, but we've seen it below $30 lately which is a steal. At his price, it's finding a wider market and becoming more popular in our area.
Also, the VSOP and Creole Shrubb in the new bottles look exquisite. Clement is catching on.

I was very pleased when I walked in to a friend's new bar and saw the bottles of Clement VSOP and Creole Shrubb on the shelves. I agree that the new bottles are fantastic.
OK, I'll admit it... I'm a sucker for a great bottle and the VSOP has one. Gorgeous. I was already in line to buy it based on the reviews, but I think the bottle did it. I can't stand seeing it on a shelf that isn't mine!

I definitely like every product Clement has put out, including the JM line. Granted, I'm not a huge agricole drinker - perhaps an agricole purist would think less of the white because it's 80-proof.

Clement USA imports both the Clement and J.M rums and they are owned by the same company in Martinique but they are still very different rums at this time.

Ecaterw, you seem like my kind of drinker.
CPC is more neutral, than a typical agricole- less complex.
If you are trying to explore the subtle and intricate beauty of Rhum Agricole- nuance, after nuance,, i would not recommend this.
But, it is a good, clean, well-made spirit, and if that is all you are looking for . . .? why not?

So I went back and picked up the CPC, and I am very glad I did. I quite liked it. It was not as 'subdued' as I was expecting from reading other comments - quite a nice well made, quality product. I tried it in a ti punch and it wasn't bad - not quite a complex as my usual suspect - Neisson blanc, but good in it's own right - different. It also made a mighty tasty mojito as well!cheers.gif

I, too, like the Clement very much. But, that said, after a year living with several good agricoles, I keep going back to the Neisson Blanc and Neisson Rhum Agricole Йlevй Sous Bois for my Ti' Punches. I always "taste" that I have "upped the ante" when I use those rhums. Since, I am not a gifted connoisseur, I can only say that the Neisson rhums add another level to my drink.

I might be the only dissenter on Clement Premier Canne. With the other white agricoles and whites I have available, this might be the last I reach for. I think this rhum would be delicious if they produced it at 100 instead of 80.

General consensus is that the VSOP is equally good. I'll definitely agree. Even without a long and thorough examination, it immeidiately ranked among my favorites.

I should add that I do have five other Clement rhums, and love them all. I just don't care for the white they release for this market. I am just a big fan of the 100 proof agricoles from Neisson and La Favorite. party2.gifI also find that I would choose others for my Daquiris and Mojitos.

Yeah Clement is definitely catching up after a few years of boredom and strange choices (small product portfollios, no innovation, bad use of the Internet, bad distribution ...etc)
I haven't tasted the Premiиre canne white rum yet but I can tell the Creole Shrubb is fantastic, for those who doesn't know shrubb is originally a very old (and easy to make) caribbean citrus fruit flavoured liquor based on aged white rum. For all the patient and creative people in this forum, you can make your own home made shrubb, just get your favourite white rum, put some sundried orange, mandarin, or even grapefruit peelings inside, also add vanilla, cinnamon or whatever and wait for it for a few months ...
If you use a "rhum ambrй" instead of a white or agricole one, it will add a pleasant caramel flavour well appreciated by some women cause it makes the taste of alcohol softer !!

I picked up a bottle of the Clиment Premiere Canne today for $31. My initial taste test was about an ounce into a small McDonald's coke for the short ride back to work. First impression was good. I'll do more testing tonight with a good cane sugar cola and a glass. Btmup.gif

As Drive-Thru Manager at store #4915 Mc Donalds in Costa Mesa I am informing you that I intend to run with your idea and begin serving the Mc Clement Coke. I hope that it is as well received as I hope! g()fy

I must say I like CPC much better with sugar cane cola than pineapple juice.

Tonight after furniture shopping with my wife, I needed something refreshing. CPC and Hansen's Natural Grapefruit Soda really hit the spot.

Well krusty, i am glad you tried it, and liked it!
i was re-reading my post, and i seem much 'cooler' than i intended-- i am sorry for that.
- quite a nice well made, quality product.
This is more along the lines of what i was trying for, i guess i got carried away with the subtlety descriptors.

This is exactly what i was trying to say!! EXACTLY!!
i am very glad you tried it, sorry for 'muddling' the issue.
