Cubaney Plata Natural White Rum

I ran across a bottle of Cubaney Plata Natural 3 year old white rum distilled in 2003 and bottled in 2006. The nose is similar to their fine old aged rums, sweet candy with a spicy note. The taste also is unique among white rums with a very smooth, warm caramel rich flavor, finishing with the unique spice suggesting cinnamon, with a very long warm finish. Not bad at all for a 3 year old white rum. I paid $13.99 in a little Cuban liquor store that was filled with fine rums and a selection of some unusual, hard to find labels.

Kudos on another interesting find. Florida is clearly the place to be in the U.S. for rum variety, but for regular discovery of cool caches of fine rum, I suspect that your dedication and local knowledge is essential.

I must say that visiting every liquor within a hundred miles to drop off Gifted Rums Guides is more interesting than I originally imagined.

As I look over the bottles at each store, I rarely find a bottle I don't already have at home. Like a junkie, I feel compelled to grab anything I don't already "know" about and must give it a try and store away a bit more rum knowledge.

Like the storied note in the bottle, we are intrigued and sometimes lucky to see what washes up on shore here from time to time.
