Reached deep into the cupboard and pulled out this one. It has actually been a couple of years since I last visited:

I found it a bit more astringent & less sweet than I recalled it - plus it seemed more 'sticky'. To the nose it still had a nice toasty bouquet... but perhaps Ed is right regarding rums being open at lengths as I think this particular bottle was a little bit brighter before. I suppose it could just as easily be my buds having evolved.

Anyway in the past I heard some back and forth on Coyopa - some extolling it's pleasant virtues and others describing it as over-priced and hot etc. I thought and still think the two bottles I got were decent sipping materials, but wonder about batching variations as it sounded like some of the difference in opinion might have been related to different batches / bottlings.

Curious, what if any were the experiences of others?

I've never been able to determine exactly how many batches of Coyopa were bottled but judging from the bottle numbers I've seen it wasn't more than two or three at most so I doubt there was much difference in the batches.

I've tasted this rum a couple of times over the years and have noticed differences but it's extremely difficult to compare two tastes of a spirit at different times months or years apart. I certainly had been comparing this rum with different rums each time I've tasted it.

I'm pretty sure there were at least 2 batches but am unsure if there was a third or more. Like you I doubt it.

Someone once suggested that there might have been a "single barrel" bottling process taking place. Not sure where that suggestion originated and have heard nothing credible to qualify it. One guess as to where that may have originated was from the "Hand Casked" terminology used along with the triple digit / lettered batch # .

Just cracked open a new bottle of this Barbadian Spirit to share with friends. It was my first taste of this 10 Year old and we were all quite please with its bouquet & taste particularly its long smooth finish. Is this still being distilled and bottled by RL Seale? I wouldn't mind buying more. It was not nearly as cloyying as some of the stickier rums coming from this island. In fact, I would have to put it in my top ten for palate accessibilty and overall sipping pleasure particularly with a good cigar.

I found a bottle of this today. Is it worth picking up? I heard good and bad.
