While shopping at the HiTime in Costa Mesa CA I was told there is going to be a rum tasting at the Chicken Coop Restaurant, Costa Mesa July 26th. There will be 50 rums and cost is $45.

Anyone else know about this?

Is that Zubie's Chicken Coop? 50 rums for $45 is a good deal.

Trayce Holiday, the unassuming spirits guru at Hi Times, is hard at work on this event. The whole list hasn't yet been confirmed yet but knowing Trayce and the guys at Hi Times it will be an opportunity to taste things that aren't normally available. In the coming weeks, Trayce will be posting more details here.

...

One of my online orders last year went awry, replete as it was with rum, bourbon and a bit of cocktail exotica. Trayce came to the rescue, straightened out my order, highlighted some special rums and pointed me to this web site (I had been lurking for some time).

His kind assistance and the great selection of rums makes me pause and wish that Costa Mesa were much closer. We'll have to try and make it down for the event.

Customer service has never been more important than in the click to satisfaction world we live in today. How we handle the inevitable problems is one of the most important things we can do.

Welcome to the forums Forrest.

If you haven't been to Hi Times, put it on the list of places you have to go in Southern California. Forrest is one of the many spirits enthusiasts who works at Hi Times. I've spent more than a few hours in the tasting room upstairs discussing rum with the staff and other reps that happened to be in the store.

These guys are probably the best educated about the spirits they sell of anyone in the area. And if they don't know the answer to your question they'll do their best to find it. If you're a visiting rep expect to be grilled, in a nice way, by these guys.

I'm just sorry I won't be able to be at the Chicken Coop to taste some of the new offerings, and a few of the old ones as well.
