Here (http://www.livescience.com/health/080528-smell-map.html) is an interesting article about research going on with the sense of smell. I might have used the term aromas instead of odors.

Aromas is a very Interesting topic, and its interesting how different aromas and fragrances affects us. There is a reason why the Mai Tai should be served in a rocks glass with a sprig of mint and a short straw or two, close to your nose.
Aromas that are digitized and transferred via computer in the future?...i think prefer genuine natural flavors..

It is amazing how aromas can trigger positive or negative memories in us. A good friend of ours described one of her first attractions to her soon to be husband was that he smelled like chocolate chip cookies!
Aromas can trigger memories from youth also. One of my fond ones is of my Grandfather. I used to sit on his lap and listen to Baseball games with him on his little transistor radio. I was barely in school at the time. He smoked little cigars, used a linament named "Absorbine Jr.", and always had a peppermint "Lifesaver" in his mouth. All positive for me. This may explain my preference for rums with a smokey aroma, medicinal flavor, and a candy finish.:)
