I stumbled across a bottle of Cruzan Clipper 120 yesterday. The label is quite simple. Its says Cruzan Clipper Rum, two years old, 120 proof, St. Criox, but nothing about spice. There is no info about this rum on the Cruzan web site. It's a very unique rum: warm, spicy and it tastes like it's more than 2 years old.

I picked up a bottle of this when I was in St Thomas in Feb. I could not find any info on it either. It was dirt cheap in ST... like $4 I think. I find it to be quite good as well - nice a strong, good flavor, mixes quite well! I'd buy more if I see it again - esp at that price!!

They had a closeout sale on this rum at my local liquor store and I bought three bottles for less than $10 each. I used it in a Zombie recipe along with some Demerara 151 to boost the potency.

If you see Cruzan Clipper on close out and you don't buy it you're missing a great spiced rum. Too bad it isn't available any more in the US. Unfortunately it never got the marketing budget to push sales in the US. But don't be fooled in thinking that 120 proof isn't a lot stronger than 80 proof, that's 50% and it's a lot.

Are You sure it's not available in the US? Here in OR it is listed as a "regular stock item" and we have a good quantity available.

Ed, as stated before in this threasd, my bottles of Cruzan Clpipper 120 2 Year make no mention of "spiced" on the newer acetate labels. I have a case of bottles with the old paper label that clearly states that it is a spiced rum. The newer bottles have a hint of spice that I find quite enjoyable on its own or mixed in a cocktail. My older bottle has a much more pronounced spice flavor. Is this what you have tasted? I am seeing fewer bottles of the newer bottling on shelves, now. The older paper label bottles dried up a couple of years ago.(From stores shelves, that is)
Thanks!

Indeed it is. I've seen it at two local stores in just the last week. $16.95.

I had a good chat with forrest today and he confirms that the version available to us in North America is not a spiced rum. It is definitley a rum with a spiciness up front, but only as a spicy note. He belioeves that the actual spiced version is still available in the Caribbean. That said, this is a very tasty wonderful 2 year rum which works well in many cocktails.

That is my understanding. The Cruzan Clipper 120 2 year old bottle sitting in front of me- that i am drinking--straight, no ice, no lime, no nothing is not spiced. It is however delicious.
i agree with Robert that it does taste older than 2 years old-- so good.
I have read about, heard of, seen pictures of the 'spiced' rum that Cruzan 'used' to make, and i have read that it is still available in St Croix, that it cost around 5 dollars, and that no-one will bring me any:(
Fret not compatriots in rum i will keep my beak to searching, and let you know if a sweet taste comes my way.

It is my understanding from a chat with a Beam Global representative, the Cruzan Clipper will continue to be available in the U.S.A.
We don't have it yet, but I believe that it is due in anytime now.
