Greetings from Sarasota, Florida

Cruzan Single Barrel has been my favorite for almost a year now. While trying something new with my friend Jon, I discovered Carlisle Reef Rum to be very similar in taste without the bitter green barrel on the aftertaste which has been more and more apparent during the past several months. I don't know if Cruzan has changed their source or methods or whether my palate is simply evolving. Regardless, if you like Cruzan Single Barrel and can forgo the pleasing bottle and wooden stopper, you will like Carlisle Reef Rum. Clearly a best buy in the $22-$26 range.

Also, I am intrigued by the Chicago Rum tasting event ! I'd love to attend something closer to home. Anybody know of something in the State of Florida ?

I welcome your comments.....

Stan

Welcome to the forums. I'm glad to see Carlisle Reef rum is on the shelves in Florida. That rum is made in Barbados and named for a reef that has claimed more than a few ships over the years.

There will be a tasting event in Miami later this year.

Welcome to the forums! There is a small tasting in Orlando on June 6th.
With gas as it is, I don't know if its worth the drive. 16 rums, though.

I like SB as well, and haven't noticed the green oak at the end, but I'm a bit of a barbarian. My current bottle was purchased about six months ago, was one of three, and is the last of those. Any chance the flavor has changed since then and not before?
