View Full Version : Marie Galante
I'm very curious to taste the 3? rhums distilled on this island. Has anyone tried them? The forum lists Distillerie Poisson (rhum agri from sugar cane juice), Distillerie Bielle (rhum agri from sugar cane syrup, is this one rhum agri?), Domaine de Bellevue (rhum agri from sugar cane juice). I would like them even more if they had oxen manure fertilized cane. Kind of rustic, don't you agree?
When you last visited Marie Bielle, Ed old pal, what did the locals call the punch they made you from fresh squeezed passion fruit, rhum blanc & sugar? Let me guess, they called it 'good'.
This is my favorite daiquiri. A passion fruit syrup daiquiri. I think I'll shake up another.

Thank you Mark for bringing a mistake to my attention. All of the rums from Bielle are made from fermented sugar cane juice. I've corrected the database, actually only the old rhum vieux was incorrect.
The fields are fertilized with oxen manure. After the harvest the oxen graze the fields and during the cane harvest oxen are in the fields to pull the carts.
I'm not sure what the passion fruit punch was called. However, it would have been 'Tres Bon' on Marie Galante.
Marie Galante is unique in that their white rhums are bottled at 59% abv, a tax concession given to the distillers on the island for some of the hardships of working on a remote island where everything is a little harder to accomplish.

Sorry about this late comment but I only just read this post. One of my favorite Agricole Rums comes from tne Distillerie Poisson in Marie Galante. This is Rhum du Pere Labat. I have also found the quality of their cane juice, which used to be sold on stalls around the island, to be absolutely exquisite.
