Welcome to the forums Karin. I had the pleasure of visiting your country some years ago. It is a very nice place.
I also have visited Madeira, and the drink you and I both enjoyed is called Poncha.
Here is a link (http://cruises.about.com/library/pictures/silversea/madeira/blmadeira15.htm?terms=Funchal+Madeira) to a traveller on a cruise ship who recounts his experience with it. There are differences in the recipe depending on regions and customs. The writer refers to the drink as "Ponche" which is Spanish, But in Madeira the correct Portuguese is Poncha.
I am not aware of any pre-made bottled versions. I think this is one of those drinks that needs to be made "on the spot". You may however be able to find a source of Madeiran Aquardente through a web search, or through an inquiry of your local stockist.

The Nederlands holds a nice spot in my heart Karin.
I also have enjoyed your Nation's Island of Bonaire on a number of occasions.

I played in the Melk Weg and the Paradaiso several times. Amsterdam is so beautiful. I also played in Den Haag but I can't remember the name of the club. Really a fun country. All of Europe is so historic for someone from the western United States.
Welcome to the forum and good luck on your search for the magical recipe.
