found this in a liquor store down the street, back in berlin.
any body ever heared about this one?
all it says on the lable is:

"RHUM BLANC
Boel Guilly
RHUM TRADITIONNEL DESTILЙ DANS LES ILES FRANЗAISES D'OUTRE-MER"

40% Vol.
and it is quite cheap: 700ml = 7,50 euro

I don't know much about rhum aricole, just have a 'ti punch once in a while when I'm in a bar that offers it.
Do you think this one is a rhum agrecole?
to me it smells a lot like Cachaзa, but as i can tell from sniffing on that punches made with La favourite or Neisson Blanc, it has a lot in common.

It is not Agricole. The label describes it as Traditionnel, which would mean made from molasses.

The clue that it is cheaper than other rums in your shop and it says Traditionnel tells you that it isn't rhum agricole. Most of the rum made from molasses in the French islands is used for punches and liqueurs, though some is consumed in cocktails, but even those that distill or drink rhum traditionnel don't consider it to be a high quality spirit.

aha, interessting: Traditionnel=molasses

and you are obviously right ed, it's not a high quality spirit.! it smells quite harsh and tastes even harsher!

but with a lot of ice and lime and cane sugar syrup not that bad ;-)

I guess they buy at bulk, ship it to france, bottle it and sell it under an invented namein europe. found that name in a french forum but no where else.

thank you so far.!

It sounds to me like a rum suited for making a rhum arrangè - spicing, maybe infusing it with some honey and pineapple? with a light whisper of vanilla?

Or for mixing with a lot of sugar in a punch to serve a college party where the palates are more interested in alcohol than anything else.

I smile every time I read about a molasses-based rum being made in traditional stills or with traditional methods. Some things are better left untranslated.
