Coruba Jamaican Rum in the US?

I have come across this rum several times and read favorable things about it.

"Coruba Jamaica Rum is a 100% Jamaican Rum made to the older 'planters rum' style. Coruba has both pot and column still rums all aged in small oak barrels for at least two years. Over thirty rum 'marks' are used to create the Coruba blend and a Solera system is followed to ensure blending consistency over time."

As I understand it is made by Appleton for the US. Being that is so inexpensive here, only $20 1L, how do you like it and does it compare to any of the other Appleton offerings?

Coruba is a heavily colored dark rum which is blended to be used in cocktails. In my opinion the solera system for consistency may be a stretch.

I wouldn't call it a hi end rum but the age statement of at least 2 years sounds consistent with the taste and price.

If you're looking for a black mixing rum, it's worth a try.

Coruba is a full-bodied, flavorful dark rum that's not expensive. If you can find it, buy a bottle and enjoy it as a floater on a fine pina colada or other cocktail that calls for a rich, tropical rum.

Interesting that this one came up.

I tried it for the first time in years at an Appleton's tasting last night. It was not part of the tasting proper. It was just there as an example of a dark rum.

I noticed it seemed heavy on the pot still characteristics though. Would that be right? It seemed rather high-ester and aromatic, and really quite interesting - even if I guess it did not have that much depth to it.

Anyway, it sort of ended up being the surprise of the night for me. Lots of character and should go great in cocktails needing a dark Jamacian rum.

The other Appleton rums are great too, but the Coruba packs a punch that they lack.

I think Coruba is the biggest selling rum in New Zealand. Not 100% sure but I thought I heard this somewhere.

Coruba is about the same color though slightly heavier in body and finish.

Coruba, which is $15 for a 750 ml bottle here, has a certain muskiness/ripeness I associate with Navy rum. It's not as much in the forefront with Coruba, but it is there. The Myers profile is a bit different and more relaxed, in that respect.
