Hi everyone! So happy that I finally stumbled across such a great website! I am the one who always turned her nose up to beer in high school and now wine at my soon to be ex-inlaws house. I always say "I'm a rum girl" - it works for everything!

I must admit however I am not very "educated" in rum. I know I like it, learning more about it, and wanting to try more of it! Been looking for some local rum tastings and just can't seem to find any! Looks like I was a day short on the DC one - last night! Darn it! :(

I went to St. Maarten on my honeymoon 4 years ago and it was my first trip to the islands. Man did I not want to come home!! Rum Jumbie and I became fast friends and so did the rum punch! I have since separated from my husband I will never separate from my love of rum or the islands!

Look forward to chatting with you all!

Val

Welcome to the rum forums. Sorry we missed you last night at Bourbon, but judging from the response I'll be back to do more in the DC area in the coming months. St Maarten sure knows how to enjoy rum, I miss the time I spent on the Lady C, but I'll be back.

Hi TinyVal, another NOVA rum lover, cool! I'm also looking for local tastings,,, outside the beltway is best for me. Will be chatting with the bartenders at the local spots this spring, see who's got what and who knows about rum. - Don

Welcome to the forums. Plenty of info here to answer your questions about rum. I love St Martin/Maarten, was there last july. I miss the Islands.

Hi Val and Don, welcome to this forum!

If you are looking for anything on the East Coast, I am the owner of a nice rum bar, aptly named Rum Bar in Philadelphia. We do occasional tastings dinners every few months. We are going to begin plans for a summer dinner coming soon.

You'll learn lots on this forum, for all rum knowledge and history of rum, pay attention to Ed Hamilton and Robert Burr's posts.

For good knowledge on the creation and distillation of rum, Angelsword is the best authority here.

If it is cocktails and drink knowledge you are after, PaulIPBartender, Tiare, and Samurai Bartender have lots to say.

There are tons of other members on here that can answer the rest of your questions. If I had a forte... I suppose it would be marketing of rum.

Anyway, welcome Virginia!

That sounds great, might have to make the drive up there. Luckily my wife isn't a big drinker so I've got a driver :)

Funny... my wife's not a big drinker either, yet I still end up driving...
