hello to everyone,
reading all your intressting articles for some month now and even posted some threads and questions, i never realy introduced myself.
sorry for that!
but now and here:
i am a german photographer domiciled in berlin (so excuse my english - still trying to recover and improve it) who became intrested in rum when my girlfriend and me decidet to go to the bahamas because she was offered a job there. not that i never had rum before, but i never realy focused on that. even though i then realised that i always liked rum-drinks very much...
so in berlin i started to try "the common stuff"" (like havana club, bacardi, myers...) neat or on ice - some horrible some great experiences, as you can imagine ;-) had my first highlights with angostura 1919 and havanas 7anjos... found this forum, read "and a bottle of rum" by wayn curtis... and was looking forward to go to the caribbean.
comming here then was great of course, but i soon realiezied that some things are like every where else: most people don't care much about what they eat or drink... :-(
the local rum is more for tourists (often sweetened and yes, mostly just bad). later i found there is some exceptions but it realy is a pain in the a... - they stopped producing the "real aged" ones (like ole nassaus 7 "ya ho") and when you find a bottle somewhere it's your lucky day...
but well, the weather is nice, there is no tax on booze here, so i can buy a bottle of barbancourt five star for 13,- dollars ;-)
by the way - that's my favourite at the moment!
over summer i will be back in berlin, but we decided to come back and will be on new providence for 7 month more. and where i come back i will definitely do some island hopping (but as everything is so expensive here and i am not a rich tourist, i'll have to figure out if there might be some skipper willing to hire me... ;-)
