X.O. denomination?

I am wondering what exactly means X.O. in terms of aging?.

If you're refering to Doorly's XO,Mount Gay XO, Pyrat XO,Clement XO, Ron Zacapa Cent XO, La Mauny XO and all the other XO rums out there...it simply means Extra Old, absolutely nothing to do with aging. There is no Rum law that determines how old or how young a rum has to be before it can be labeled XO. So if I decide to market a rum aged for 6 days in wood, I could call it as XO. Though you probably wouldn't buy it. :(

The Rum Ambassador is correct, as far as I know. For instance, Niesson XO is a blend of rums of up to 14 years of age. Some others are blends of rum up to 10 years old, or more than 10 or 14. I believe, but I am not sure, that most distilleries try to use the XO designation for rums and blends over 10 years old, but as the Rum Ambassador said, that is not always the case.
Once again, this is based on what I have been told and read.
