That rum is good for colds we know., but its good for many other things as well..no surprise..

Yesterday i had a quite upset stomach starting in the morning and why i have no clue. I tried the whole day to calm it down with "kind" foods and teas to no help.
In the evening i was really fedup with the whole thing and said to myself F**K this! and went on to drink a few different rums instead, and guess what? my stomach got good again and been good since then.

One time I had an awful flu thing coming, I felt it was something real BAD..and I whipped up 1 eggyolk, lots of rum, fresh chilipepper, 6 crushed garlic cloves and drank it, almost fainted (for real) and went to bed..next morning all the bedsheets was wet but the flu was gone. I like your cure Count! I believe it works. All those non believers who says you cannot cure or at least help a cold a bit is rubbish!
I got to get a bottle of this Canarian rum..but not only for the cure..:p
But another important thing when curing colds which must not be overlooked is a lot of sleep.

I am now suffering from a minor cold complete with sinus congestion and sore throat. I have been having a shot of rum and it does lessen the sore throat.

However I haven't put any sugar or sugar content items in as I seem to remember from high school biology that sugar promotes bacteria/virus growth??

I think alcohol kills bacteria and viruses better than sugar promotes them. Somewhere out there on the net are old medical journals extolling the virtues of alcohol. My friend has a century old book instructing doctors how to distill spirits as a cure for many aliments. Generally, tinctures of herbs and barks, seeds and extracts of many varieties were brewed for many uses. Bitters were probably originally medicinal in nature.

Swedish bitters for example got its name from the well-known 18th century Swedish Physician and Rector of Medicine, Dr. Claus Samst.

In the 18th Century, Dr Samst rediscovered the formula through a family tradition. The formula recorded by Dr Samst is the Swedish Bitters that we know today. The Swedish doctor also compiled a manuscript describing the 46 conditions for which Swedish Bitters can bring relief.

Its even said that 2 drops will make a drunk person sober again..

At some point Swedish bartenders found out from old drink books to use these bitters in drink mixing.
