I friend dropped by to watch hockey the other night and brought a bottle of this wonderful rum. I was blown away by how smooth and sweet this rum was. I had never heard of it before and couldn't find anything out about on the web
He says he picked up in Trinidad a couple of years ago, and the bottle was marked bottle 18 of barrel 300 or something like that.
Anyone out there have any info on this?
Thanks,
Duff

Sounds very tasty, though never heard of it.
Speaking of which, I wish I had friends that popped over with rare bottles of rum to drink.

I unfortunately just have friends that come over and clean me out of half my bottles on a periodic basis.
Well... at least I "think" they're friends!

Sorry, I should clarify my "friend" comment. One of my buddies has a similar affinity and collection of rums as I. We both tend to conceal the "good" one's at the back of the stack of bottles.
I keep the Brugal Anejo on hand for mixed drinks (splash of Coke and topped up with soda water) and this is what guests get if they want rum.
Sorry for any confusion. I'm not a good enough friend to have all kinds of friends who drop by with great rum to watch hockey. Beer..yes. But rum....no.

I had this "friend" stay with me for 2 weeks a couple years back. (Note: this is back when my rum collection was at a balmy 6 bottles... 1 of them being captain morgan, but I digress) He drank me out of my Ketel One and Belvedere, my Captain Morgan handle, and my Bacardi Limited Reserve.
Me and him... not such good friends now. Drink all the Captain you want, but rare, hard to find bottles is where I cross the line! Id never invite him over again, now that ive got over 50 rums. Oy, I can only imagine!!

Well said, Philly!
I draw the line at sharing (too much) with others when I have to take into consideration that replacement of said bottles requires me to leave the country.
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing I'd rather be doing right now than lying on a beach in the Caribbean with several bottles neatly packed in my suitcase. Especially since we're at the end of March and it was just snowing big fat fluffy snowflakes for three hours this morning.
Need some rum to warm up.

This thread has been hi-jacked, no doubts about it. I have one friend who enjoys Barbancournt 15 and now enjoys several of the rums I've introduced him to. He's a good guy and shares everything he has at any time. I have other friends who would drink my best dry to catch a buzz. They would if I were to let them. I have the designated non-rum drinking rums available.
I do not let non-rum drinkers guzzle my better rums. No sense in wasting the rum and my friends will be happy with what I give them. Clear and healthy boundaries solve all sorts of problems.
Now, to make a Cuba Libre with Pyrat Cask 1623 for my friends' girlfriend whom I have never met . . .

If I entertained a guest and guest's said girlfriend requested... nay... demanded a cuba libre with my Pyrat Cask, would I be wrong if I politely killed her?
I think Id get away with a "temporarily insanity" plea. Ive been watching too much Eli Stone... :D

You just CANNOT make a Cuba Libre with Pyrat Cask 1623...

First off, JMac, you're spot on about the Canucks. The way they're playing, the only rum I drink while watching is depth charges of 151 proof Barcello in my beer each time they give up a goal. So needless to say based on their recent performances, I'm pretty well snapped up by the end of each game!!
Count, photos are on the way. A soon as I get them I'll post if I can figure it out. My buddy says the rum is a limited edition that was produced for one reason or other and there were only a certain number of bottles available.
If it runs out he's messing with me about this, it'll be Daniel Day Lewis time, "There will be Blood!"
Stay tuned,
Duff

Duff,
When you get the photos, we'll talk you through the process. The main thing to research though, is a photo hosting service. Photobucket works for me. Free and easy.

First you will need to create an account at a photo hosting service. There are several, but I like Photobucket. You can find it here:
http://photobucket.com/
Go ahead and create that account and then upload your images according to the instructions provided there.
Having done that, you'll find you've created a library of images in your "album." Now, double click on the line that says "direct link." You have just copied the address of that jpeg onto your browser.
Return to the MOR site.
See that little icon in the second row above. The one just underneath the curved arrows....sort of looks like a postcard in yellow?
Go ahead and put your curor on it and it will say "insert image." Click on it. A box will appear that says "http:" Erase the "Http" part and paste the copied link into the box. Press the "OK" button. Go ahead and hit "preview post" on the bottom of the MOR page. You should see your image appear as a preview. If you like it, just hit "submit reply" and....voila....it's up.
This sounds longer and harder to do than it is, and after a bit, you get pretty fast at it. Of course, you only have to create the account once, so that part is done "forever" once you have completed the accounbt creation.
Why do they make us go through this? The answer is.....bandwidth....or rather lack of it.
Anyway, if you have trouble doing this, let me know and we'll work it out.
Something to inspire you:

If you press "quote over my post, you'll see the image doesn't actually reside "here." Just an address, surrounded by some text ([IMG]
And that's how it works!

You can also upload your image to http://imageshack.us/ without creating an account.

Good work Duffman,
And now, one final comment on posting images. You can scale your pictures to fit the web page by pressing the edit button over the image on photobucket (or your hosting website). The hit the "resize" button. Try "320X240." I find that's a good size for this site.

I'm sitting here drinking a glass of the above mentioned Single Barrel Reserve.
Not only is this a great rum, but I finally learnt how to display photos on the MOR. Everytime I tried in the past they said the files were to big!!
Anyway, the rum is really smooth, with some of those famous Angostura traits. We hopefully have a good supply coming soon with our initial order of other Trinny rums, due to arrive imminently. They are a great addition to the rums we sell. If this one doesn't arrive with the shipment I'm in trouble as the bottle is half empty (full). When I went to Trinidad earlier in the year I intially missed this rum. It wasn't until I met the export team at Angostura, on my last day that I tried this rum. Actually it was my breakfast with some chocolate. But it made an instant impact on me, even though I usually reserve rum for breakfast on Sundays!! This is highly recommended, but unfortunately does not seem to be avaiable much outside of T & T. There was discussions of introducing a new rum called "Master Blenders". I did point out there was already one with a similar name at their new aquisition in Jamaica!!gzzg
