Very popular in Spain. As well as the obvious coke mix, they like to drink it with plenty of ice, tonic or soda water with a twist of orange. They haven't released it over here yet (the UK), but you can find it in a few select bars around the UK...including mine. Definitely a rum that has to be mixed I feel although my friends from Venezuela say that they can drink it with ice and a slice....My entry level for the Pampero range is Anniversario

All I have ever been able to locate is Aniversario. It lives at the top of my preferences. In fact, if I had to select just one bottle to live with the rest of my life......but I don't! On the other hand I'm eager to explore the range of this brand. Unfortunately, I have no idea how I'd do that, as Pampero seems to import only Aniversario here.

Perhaps we could be neighbors, and thus share our bottles!

Found the Pampero White, Gold and the "Lew Barrett Treasure" all on the same shelf at a store.
$18 for a bottle of the white. Worth picking this up at this price? Considering I can get Don Q for $10.99 a bottle, Ron Botran for $9.99 a bottle and El Dorado White for $9.99 a bottle?
Is spending the extra $7 to $8 going to gain me any revelations other than "Oh, wow - I just spent $7 too much for a bottle of white rum."

Having previously spent three years working in Spain and these days a regular visitor to the country, I don't think I have ever seen Pampero Blanco anywhere. However, I don't know about on the Balearics or Canary Islands - it might be found there. The only two Pamperos that I have seen in bars, supermarkets and liquor shops in mainland Spain are the Pampero Especial and the Pampero Aniversario. The Especial is usually used in mixed drinks such as cuba libres, and the Pampero is generally kept as a sipper, although having said that many Spaniards are also more than happy to drink it with coke.
The Pampero Blanco is quite popular in Italy I believe.
I keep a couple of bottles of the Especial (and a few Caciques too) which I usually use for mixed drinks, and I have three bottles of the Aniversario which I sip and get through quite slowly. Whenever I go to Spain I stock up on the Aniversario as it's very expensive in the UK. My girlfriend claims the leather pouches after I'm done with a bottle, and she uses them to store jewellery and other bits and pieces.

Oh, even in these horribly worrisome times, what's a few bucks to have an experience with another Pampero? I say go for it! And report back!

Lew, I'm hunkering down for the cold cold winter, and this is the time of year I find myself switching gears to the fine Scottish Ales.
However, I've yet to crack the wax on my new bottle of Foursquare I picked up on a lucky find a while back, a nice spiced rum can do the trick when the wind is whipping it up outside.
It will be late Spring before I sink the cash on the Pampero white (provided I still have an income, a home, a car at that time).

If you lose all that stuff, make sure you have plenty of rum. In fact, I'd suggest you just score the rum and hope the other stuff works itself out. Seriously though, good luck. The world has not gotten cheerier in the last month.

The world is quite cheery... when viewed through the side of a rum bottle!
It's not all bad... at least spring is coming, with summer around the corner - and all those great rum concoctions to try out!!!! I can't wait!
