The night before I leave for London and Rum Experience 2008 I'll be hosting a Rum Tasting Festival in New York City - Oct 20, 2008. The exact location is yet to be confirmed but with several options presented over the last couple of days I can announce this upcoming event. In addition to rum, I've received interest from several Caribbean Island Tourist Boards.
Ministry of Rum forum members will be receive discounts to this and other Ministry of Rum events in Chicago, Miami and another city, which will be announced as soon as a few more details are nailed down.
I'm also working with several liquor stores in these cities to offer discounts on store stock after these events.

Welcome Ian, I'm glad you found this announcement on the forum. I was just typing you an email invitation. Maybe I'll have to find a larger venue.

Here's a link to some details on the New York Ministry of Rum Festival (http://www.ministryofrum.com/forums/../newyork2008.php). The list of rums participating is growing but I don't want to add them until they are confirmed.
But my question to you is what would you like to see at this event? Is it more important to taste a rum which is new to you or would you rather meet the distiller or a representative from the distillery?

Both sound amazing.
Hey if you need someone to pour let me know..

Hi Ed - just tried to get tickets to the NYMRF but not on sale yet?
A bunch of us NY rum drinkers just wanted to make sure it's still on track and everything's good.
Thanks

Sorry for the delays. Traveling so much occasionally takes it's toll on me. I thought I had the web page sorted out to show tickets available on the 1oth, but apparently my coding skills still need some work.
If you are a registered forum member you can click on My Favorites (http://www.ministryofrum.com/forums/recipes.php)above and you'll be able to buy tickets at a discounted rate. The software shows a shipping charge and I haven't been able to sort that out, tickets will be sent to you with a shipping charge.
At the event you will be asked to show an id to prove you are 21, but if you buy tickets online more than a week in advance you'll get your ticket and a name badge so you won't have to wait in line at the door. I look forward to seeing you in New York.

As usually happens at these events the list of confirmed rums has grown almost to capacity with the addition of Barcelу and a few smaller brands like the boutique Scarlet Ibis rum from Haus Alpenz. Here's the latest list (http://www.ministryofrum.com/forums/../newyork2008.php).
Eric Seed strikes again!
I'm still really bummed I can't make it to this. Next year I don't anticipate having to cram it between a wedding, funeral, and RumFest UK (hopefully just the last of those).

Don't worry, hopefully you won't have to wait until next year for an event like this to come to the left coast. Which brings me to another post.

We're sorry to have to miss the NY Festival, but hope that the forthcoming post announces an SF (or Bay Area) Ministry of Rum Festival! cheers.gif

St Elizabeth Allspice Dram (http://www.ministryofrum.com/forums/../rumdetails.php?r=789) is slated to be there as well as Richard Seale the distiller of John D Taylor Falernum, (http://www.ministryofrum.com/forums/../rumdetails.php?r=513) Doorly (http://www.ministryofrum.com/forums/../producerdetails.php?t=12) and Tommy Bahama rums, though the latter won't be tasted as it is marketed through another company that has other commitments.

It has just been confirmed that 3-star Pierre et Vacances Hotel has offered a 7-night stay for two in a nice studio apartment as a door prize at the New York Ministry of Rum Festival.
Located on the south coast near St Luce, this is a beautiful place to stay. I'll be posting some pictures tomorrow.
This prize will include two round trip airline tickets on American Airlines.

Excellent, I appreciate having different products other than rums as I have always hoped to bring in many of HA's products.
Richard Seele's coming? Groovy! Too bad my Sidney Frank PA rep couldnt make it, he'll die when I tell him Seele will be there.

Ed - it really was a great time last night. Thanks again for organizing this excellent event.
Fantastic venue, a great selection of rum companies and nice giveaways and door prizes too!
Very glad I was able to attend - I'm really hoping it was a "first annual".

Hey, it was good seeing you again last night. I think next time I'm up in NY, we'll have to try the Rhum Rhum Room though!
Whenever I think of that name, Im reminded of the movie "Life" where Eddie Murphy imagines he owns a bar called Ray's Boom Boom Room.

Ed,
Great event last night! Some outstanding people as well, meeting Zack Brinley and the owner's of Vizcaya (sweet people!) was an unexpected surprise.
I've still got some sour grapes that my friend Matan won that trip, heh..
On a funny side-note, I always envisioned Richard Seele as being black. When I had somebody point him out, (it was him and Eric Seed) they said the guy on the right. My response was "Which right?" Wish I wasnt already torched when I spoke to him. Might have had something a little more profound to say than "Doorly's is my favorite rum that I dont have."

Ed's NY event was a great success and the venue at Papilon on 54th street was ideal for the purpose. Nice to see LeisureMaster, RumBarPhilly and others from the forum, as well as Eric and Richard Seale and all our friends from the great rum companies.
Afterward, we met up with friends at a secret undisclosed location that even Dick Cheney does not know about, by entering an unassuming phone booth inside a tiny hot dog stand and reciting a top secret password into a secure phone, causing the back wall to open, revealing a clandestine bar filled with great rums and fine concoctions. Think I'm kidding? It's called Please Don't Tell, so don't say you heard it from me.
Ed and I continued on to another place perhaps equally obscure, located on a deserted alley in Chinatown. It was dead, no one around, nothing open at all. Ed keyed in a few digits on his cell and a door opened. We passed through a small portal down a hallway into a club full of beakers, tinctures, and chemistry paraphernalia named Apotheke. (ap-o-tek) Each bartender mixologist was from a different country, each a mad scientist with license to experiment with potent spirits and mysterious substances to create drinks for us that were amazing and delicious and unexpectedly unique.
When that covert sanctum closed, we ventured farther into the late night club scene to meet up with friends at Employees Only, an after-hours bar frequented by the trade, before retiring for a brief respite only to continue this adventure in London the next day.

After too much fun over the last week, I'm finally back in the states with internet access and a few minutes to catch up.
First congratulations to Matan Steinfeld, who won a trip to Martinique.http://www.ministryofrum.com/images/matan.jpg
And congratulations to Carolyn Walther who will be enjoying Imbibe magazine for the next year, compliments of Imbibe.

I'm collecting more photos of the New York Ministry of Rum Festival and will be posting them shortly.
Thanks to everyone who made this event a success by enjoying our favorite spirit fully and responsibly.
