This is quite cool even though quite pointless..
A bartender in Japan who is carving a ball of ice to fit inside a rocks glass.

Wow... I'm speechless...
First: Nice tux!
Second: If I had to do this for any drink on the rocks, I would probably end up throwing the rock at em half way through

We just use a rubber ice mould to make our ice balls. You can buy them at Muji.....much less fuss

Didn`t know about ice molds, with that it makes more sense to make ice balls if you need it.
We have 2 Muji shops in Stockholm, but i doubt they have any rubber ice molds..they are a bit limited here.
On the other hand its quite useless for me in my homebar..;)
But the iceball looks really cool.

These things make the coolest balls of ice - one ball can last someone all night

Maybe a stupid question..but how do you use it?
If the iceball last all night..then its pretty useful.

You just fill it with water through the hole in the top. Then you split the mould and release the ball. It's totally reusable - we've had ours for years.
They work particularly well if you freeze and thaw them out 3 times - it removes the air from the water making the ice very compact so it takes longer to thaw
They're fantastic things, I highly recommend you pick one up if you can find them

Well, you`ve got me very interested in this ice mold after explaing how it can be used..
I just checked, i can`t find them here and on this online Muju shop they have none, so maybe if you can get me one? if i ask kindly..?
I send you the money..i`m going to send you the Swedish bitters very soon anyway.

I love the idea of an ice ball. I will have to keep my eyes open to find one. Pretty nifty.

This is common practice in Japan for whiskey. The idea is that the ice ball lasts a lot longer than a cube, so that by the time you get to the end of your whiskey it is not totally diluted with melt-water.
