Renegade Rum (http://www.bruichladdich.com/latestnewsarticles/renegaderum.htm) is the latest addition to the small batch rum bottling to hit the radar.

What do you think of these rums Ed? and nice bottles too...

This one looks especially interesting to me:

Guyana 1990 46% Vol. 70cl RP £38
Aged 16 Years
Distillery: Enmore
Cask Type: Bourbon ACE’d in Maderia Casks.
Limited Release 1180 Bottles

That looks interesting. I'll try to get some more information from the distiller. Some of the Guyanese unblended rums don't resemble the El Dorado 15 year old that we know and love.

How is the distribution on the Renegade Rum? Do you think I could find it in KY, OH, IN or MI.

If you are very lucky you may find it at the Party Source (http://www.thepartysource.com/) in KY, I would keep my hopes up in those other states yet. I'm looking for a good online store that stocks it.

Any tasting notes on these rums? They have me interested but I don't want to purchase any without further info. A little too pricey for that gamble right now.

I further read in an older post that they would be in the US by July 2008 but I don't expect them to be any cheaper than the UK prices. So if they are well reviewed...Ill give one or two a try.

I met with the distributor CVI this week and asked him about the Renegade. He said he was not sure about bringing it to the states- it seemed like only a maybe right now. I think that has to do with the slow response the McDavids got. The MMDs are almost gone now, so he might change his tune. But it didn't sound optimistic. I of course pushed him to do it, but we'll see.

I'm on the road for another week. When I get back to the laboratory I can do a comparative tasting with some other demeraras.

Martin, let him know that on the east coast, the MMD's are starting to sell well and the Plantations have always done well. Cadenhead's were so delicious, but we only had a couple bottles in which were now out of. If they're distributor is looking for something, the east coast might do okay in specialty stores and bars.

I must say i find the renegade rum aged in madeira casks very interesting. Anyother rums that have been aged in madeira casks or port for that matter?

And whilewe are at it. Anyother rums besides the ron Botran solera that have been agedin sherrycasks?

I was given the range by Renegade Rums' London distributors. As a range of rums they are truly complexed. Very subtle notes on the finish, which I suppose was the thought behind creating the range. These rums are more for the aged spirit connoisseurs;although not exclusively rum drinkers. I think there are pleasurable sensations here for single malt, heavy wine. sherry and port drinkers alike. They are not I would offer to a person just getting into rums as they don't really deliver the stereotypical flavour of a rum that the general public would associate with "holidays in the sun," or the "an after dinner drink under the Caribbean moonlight". But they will definitely challenge the palates of the MOR members and other discerning, seasoned rum sippers. I'm not sure if all four rums will be to everyone's liking but I'm sure there is at least one that will take your fancy.

Jamaica 1992
GUYANA 1990
Guyana 1995
Panama 1997

Tasting notes will be posted on the upcoming web page....

These go on sale in NYC on April 1st (first date for price posting). Drop me a line if you have any difficulty finding them - I know one of the importers.

Do you expect them to move down the turnpike and distribute to NJ or PA?

Looks like they will have a new distributor in California - he is bringing them by my bar next week to try. I will post a report. Cheers!
