Well...soon come..:D
In light of recent events that no one here knows anything about, I think I may actually make it to RF08.

I searched earlier for the date and could swear that Ian posted next year's date last October but I can't find it. It's October 25th and 26th 2008.

to be sure, arrive in London October 22 and stay for a week. you may be visiting New York just before that time, so pack a few extra rum reggae shirts.

The 25th & 26th October are the dates for the diary and as Rob said, arrive a few days early as we've got a few rum parties leading up to the big festival. The web page will be live next week, so look out for updated news of what will be a HUGE Rum Event...(And so say all of us) :)

Ian and Paul,
I hope you can steer some of your "special friends" to affordable accommodations in London. It's a challenge, but perhaps we can book something early and take advantage of a good deal -- and have the advantage of lodging in close proximity to each other.

I thought everyone was going to bunk on Ian's floor this year. I could have sworn I heard you bagsy the sofa.
We'll sort you out chaps, don't you worry. Bagsy the spare bed

I was checking hotel prices a week ago and they really are not cheap..
One night in the cheapest place i saw cost as much as a one way flight ticket..
And i agree, it would certainly be nice if all MORummers could lodge in close proximity to each other.

Last year, my son Robert and I stayed at the Astor Court, around the corner from the classy Langham Hotel and the Artesia Bar, where the judges met for the competition. It was small, quaint and convenient to Regent Street, within walking distance of Soho where many of the trendy rums bars are located. I believe the price was about $200US per night, including breakfast.

Next door, the Hallam Hotel (http://www.hallamhotel.com) was also affordable.

Hallam looks best, its half the price from Astor Court.

I'm working on the case for affordable accommodations.
The great thing about London is that the local transport is very good . So if you stay in a hotel, about 15-20 minutes bus or subway from the center of town, then you'll save at least 33% on hotel bills.

Thanks for the tip Mr Ambassador. I can probably stay a maximum of 4 days in London if I make it, lets say when I make it because I really need to be there in october. Do you think 4 days is enough for all the planned festivities?

Not really..or at least, i believe it would be a very minimum, a week would be better. Lets say that the cheaper accommodation we find the longer we can stay...I believe that for the hotels you must count a minimum of 60 euro per night.
What are the flight prices from Finland? do you have low price flights? here we have budget flights that cost about 60 euro with return ticket.

The flights should be very cheap, depending of course which airline I choose. Typically Finnair are more expensive than Blue1 for instance but I don't think I need the comforts of Finnair for such a short flight.

Well if you're just looking to take in the flavours of the Rum Experience, then 4 days could be enough. A quick sneak of the time table is as follows
Thursday 23rd October The Rum Experience Tasting Competition at The Langham Hotel
Friday 24th October. Ministry of Rum Party hosted by Mr Hamilton and Mr Burrell for Press, VIP's & Ministry of Rum members.
Saturday 25th October. Day 1 of the Rum Experience
Sunday 26th October. Day 2 of the Rum Experience
There will probably be other events like a party to celebrate the battle of Trafalgar on the 21st October, but I will let you know as soon as I have confirmed the dates.
