Trader Vic's closed in their bar at the Palmer House after about 50 years in 2001. A new license has been issued for a location near Oak and State. Tiki kitsch is almost back in the windy city.

Do you have any idea when this is supposed to open? I will be in Chicago in October and was hoping to check out a Trader Vic's as we dont have them in Canada.

Walked by Trader Vic's at the Palmer House Hotel many, many times when I worked in DT Chicago as it was on my walk from my condo to my office. Never once stopped in there though.

Of course, that was before I enjoyed rum!

No offense intended, actually that was a description of the old Trader Vics, which was reported to be coming back by the local press in Chicago. As we all know, mass produced rarely, if ever, produces the best of anything.

No need to worry; FI is firmly on the bright side of the cool/kitsch divide.
