We're putting on a series of rum tasting/cocktail experience days in partnership with Appleton, Angostura and Elements 8 towards the end of the month.
March 19th, 26th and 2nd April
Ostensibly it's for the brands to send their customers but if any M.O.Rummers wanted to slide in on any of the dates then let me know and we'll see what we can do.

If you can come on the 26th March or 2nd April you would be more than welcome. As well as being educational it's going to be a rum orgy :)
Let me know by private mail and I'll send you an invite. I need your mobile number as we've got a text message system running reminders now......all very high tech.
Really looking forward to meeting you buddy and to hear more about your bar.

Tell us more about this Rum Orgy on March 19, and the upcoming ones scheduled for March 26 and April 2. Don't hold back any details...

I had the great privilege to be invited to take part in the "rum orgy" on 2nd April. All the other participants, apart from myself, work in various different areas of the "drinks industry".
I had seen photographs of the famous rum collection before, but this was my first sight of the real thing. There are about 250 different rums behind the bar - including some that you won't find anywhere else in London - as well as many whiskies, liqueurs and syrups.
The day started with a "blind tasting session" to challenge people's pre-conceptions about rum. I got off to a bad start - what I thought was Rhum Agricole turned out to be whisky.:o We were then given a brief outline of the history of rum, and this was followed by a detailed discussion of the different styles of rum and their production. After this, participants were divided into two groups, and each group worked together to produce its own blend of rum from the same basic ingredients.
After lunch, we all tasted a couple of dozen different rums, covering the entire spectrum from "Agricole" to "Navy", and there was further discussion of the similarities and differences between the styles of the many rum producing countries.
I would strongly recommend a course of this type for anybody at all interested in this much misunderstood spirit, from beginners to specialists. I certainly learnt a lot, even though I previously considered myself fairly knowledgable.
Thanks to Paul, Ben, Nick and everybody else for a wonderful day.:)

Thanks for the kind review Adam, and also for your wonderful company last week. We all had a damn good time with all those rums and the group was both engaged and having fun.
We've got more of these rum events planned, hopefully with Angostura, Appleton and Elements Eight involved again - so I'll keep you all posted.
Somer of you may be interested in our website, where I've posted some rum information (overviews of some rum producing countries and tasting notes on their leading marques) and some marketing info that Angostura kindly provided. There's also pics from the last event - Adam (Berbician) can be found peeking into the 9th pic down the right hand side, 3rd guy from the left........
