Gosling Rum

Have two questions about Gosling rum hoping someone can answer:

First I know Gosling rum was once distilled Barbados rum that was aged in Bermuda...is that still the case? I visited Bermuda but did not get a chance to visit the factory, but the climate seemed too temperate to support growing sugar cane.

Second...can anyone give me their impressions on the Gosling Family Reserve. I found a place near me that sells it for $55 a bottle. The packaging looks real nice, but was wondering if there was a big difference between it and the Black Seal?

Gosling rum is a blend of Caribbean rum from Barbados and other islands which has included Trinidad.

Old Family Reserve is very different compared to Black Seal. It is aged longer and is much drier and a very smoky oak flavor.

I can definitely confirm that there isn't any sugar cane grown in Bermuda. Especially not for their rum. The Old Rum (Family Reserve) is the same blend as the black seal but aged longer in their barrels. A minimum of 10 years in fact, as I was told by Malcolm Gosling. Try the rum in a warm brandy snifter after a heavy meal with some plain chocolate. (not cheap 30% cocoa type...at least 75% cocoa). You'll be pleasantly surprised.
