I've just heard about a new rum from Newport, Rhode Island named Thomas Tew Rum. Quote from the website:

"For 135 years the once thriving Rhode Island distilling industry lay dormant. Finally, in 2007, Newport Distilling Company received the first license to distill in the state since the close of the John Dyer distillery. Naturally, the goal is to recreate the rum that had been world famous 250 years ago. Using the same blackstrap molasses, local water, and pot still techniques, this rum has been resurrected and is now called Thomas Tew. "

I haven't tried it yet but I will soon. There's a function at the Twin Rivers Casino tonight where they are supposed to introduce it but I can't make it. There's a nice little video and history at the website.

Scotte did a tasting on this rum. Not too good based on his review. I wont be hunting it down anytime soon. If I stumble on to it, could be the only way Id get it.

The Rum looks good. Great bottle and logo. The name is a little hokie. I would pick up a bottle. I like the video. The guy talking say's "Um" a little to much. HATS OFFF TO THEM FOR TRYING TO BRING BACK A LILLTE "American Made" RUM CULTURE.
